There is a sharp right-angle turn at the expressway which reads Mumbai Pune expressway ends here indicating the beginning of teh journey on the national highway.

The Mumbai Pune expressway merges into the NH 4 along until the road reaches Belgaum. Starting on the Mumbai Pune Expressway for 94 km on the 6-lane expressway, you would reach Pune in 3 to 4 hours. The main milestones on this journey are Sankeshwar, Kolhapur and Satara. Once you reach Rankala Lake, Panhala Fort and the Jyotiba Temple on your way. The next stop on your Goa to Mumbai should be Belagum where you may also decide to have a night halt. Belgaum is popular for the Belgaum fort and the Bhimgad Wildlife sanctuary and the first stretch of this road from Goa to Belgaum is a 3-hour journey.

Route 2- The Bombay Goa Highway via NH 66

On this route, the distance is 577 km which can be covered in 13 to 15 hours. The route comes as Goa> Sawantwadi> Pali> Chiplun> Khed> Kolad> Pen> Panvel> Mumbai. This will be a delightful scenic journey with paddy fields, coconut and area nut plantations all along this route. You can also have a beachside halt at Ganpatipule.

This route is long and windy while breathtaking in its scenic beauty is not the best for those who suffer from motion sickness. After Panvel, the road reaches NH 17 hence renamed NH 66. Reaching Mumbai from Panvel is not tough as it is a single free zip over a flyover. This route is a commercially important route, this road has a number of hotels, repair shops, petrol pumps and restaurants.
