The place where history and free spirits coexist. Hampi is the place where you rediscover yourself from bottom of your heart.
Hampi is said to be Angkor Wat of India (in a positive kind of way). It is an ancient village situated in the state of Karnataka. It has a number of temple ruins.
Wondering about its LOCATION?
It is located in the central part of the State of Karnataka (in the southern part of India) which is 353 km from Bangalore. It is 467m above sea level.
WHAT IS HAMPI FAMOUS FOR?
I answer this question in the previous section anyway, it is famous for its ruins which originally belong to the rich, ancient, and cultured (and forgotten) kingdom of the Vijaynagar Empire. The temples have been built in the Hindu architectural style which reflects the grandeur and splendor of the Vijayanagar Empire. And what adds more to it is the rugged landscapes. (I guess this would be a perfect escape plan)

Want to get festive vibes while on a trip. I would advise you to visit it in January/ February in which the birth anniversary of the medieval poet (rather a musical composer) Purandar in Vittal Temple is celebrated annually.
Another such festival is Vijaya Utsav (which is also known as Hampi festival). This cultural Carnival is organized by the government itself in the first week of November for two days. It recreates the rich legacy of the royal heritage of the Vijayanagar empire with an ample number of programs such as dance, drama, etc.

THINGS TO DO IN HAMPI?
Visit Temples
Hampi is full of temples that is why I addressed it as Angkor in the very beginning. It will take a full day to tour around all the major temples themselves. if you prefer big and busy cities to go to a tour then Hampi is not the place for you because this quaint location is for those who prefer smaller sites and be not surprised if within few hours the same faces can be seen and within a day people might know your name and next day you can plan to explore Hampi with them. Hampi is one of the best sites for solo travelers with a backpack.
Visit Sunset and Sunrise Points
With a lot of picturesque landscapes and the ample number of small mountains surrounding the place giving it a mesmerizing look, the place is a perfect fir to capture a spectacular sunrise and/ or sunset.
MANTANGA HILLS
if you are fond of sunrises, these are the hills that have been calling you since forever. I mean come on you can’t really ignore it here.
Hemakuta Hill
This is the spot to capture one of the best sunsets in the region. Visit it!
Historical Sites
if you are fond of cultural-historical sites and it interests you more than anything in the world then Hampi is the place for you. Dating back to the 1st century the place is full of surprises if you are visiting it for the very first time without any travel guide. Then it used to be the second-largest city in the world.
Ride across the river
I would love to advise you to take a tour around the river and/ or sit by it on the ghats enjoying the calm and serene water after 5:30 pm. To get on the other side of the river you need to take a boat ride which actually costs you rupees 10 per person but they might charge you rupees 30 at maximum due to the monopoly of the boat riders. Like Boat Rides in Nainital
The Motorboats.
The thing to note is that the boat leaves the shore if the boat has at least 20 passengers or if the people are ready to pay double the charge, they may get ready to leave early without getting full. One more thing to note here is that you are not really allowed to take a boat back to the other side after 5:30 pm due to safety issues as there is a rumor of a crocodile in the river. The boat riders charge sky prices if you are late as in rupees 100 directly. Yeah, I mean look at the audacity but all in all, this is Great.
Cliff Jumping
well, owing to the rumor of crocodile into the river you take this at your own risk after consulting the locals there.
Places to Eat? Let me assure you the place is full of small cafes and restaurants you really need not worry about the food here except for one thing that Non-veg is not served here.
PARTY AT HAMPI
If you are a party animal enjoying smoking and drinks this is not the place for you because it is banned here. You can then plan your trip to Kasol Himachal Pradesh.
Accommodation at Hampi
It may be varied between rupees 400 to 500 from place to place (less luxurious)
Yeah, that is it for Hampi. You should surely visit it once in your lifetime to have a lifetime experience.
