The route from Masingudi is quite shorter to reach Ooty but this route is narrow and has some sharp curves. The climate on these two routes provides you a relaxing experience.

There is no direct train from Mysore to Ooty but you can take the train from Mysore to Coimbatore railway station is takes around 7 hours to reach Coimbatore from Mysore. And after reaching Coimbatore you have to take another train from Coimbatore to Mettupalayam. Mettupalayam is further connected to Ooty by toy train.

Spread over 55 acres of land these gardens are maintained by the Horticulture Department of Tamil Nadu it is undoubtedly one of the most popular places to visit in Ooty. This garden is divided into 5 different sections that are Fern House, Lower Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory, and Nurseries. One more popular attraction of Botanical Garden is the Fossil Tree Trunk here that is believed to be around 20 million tears ago. The entry fee to visit here is Rs 30 per person for adults and Rs 15 per person for children. You can visit here all seven days of the week as this garden open from 7 am to 6.30 pm.

Avalanche Lake

Avalanche Lake is located around 28 km away from Ooty. This lake is created by a massive landslide in the 1800s from where this lake got its name. it is also an ideal picnic place. You can enjoy trekking and camping here. The waterfalls nearby that are rushing down by the mountains add more beauty to this already panoramic landscape. You can also enjoy a forest safari here that costs you Rs 150 per person for Bus Safari and Rs 1200 pe4r trip for Jeep Safari.

Doddabetta is the highest peak in the Nilgiri Hills, and the fourth highest peak in South India after the peaks of Anamudi, Mannamalai, and Meesapulimala respectively. This peak is located at an altitude of 2623 meters. Situated at the junction of the Western and the Eastern Ghats this peak is around 10 km far from Ooty. There are two telescopes installed at the top of the peak to enjoy the mesmerizing view of the Eastern and the Western Ghats. The term Doddabetta means ‘Big Mountain’ in the Badaga language. You can enjoy the views of both places from here that are the forests of Bandipur National Park and the open landscapes of Mysore. There is no entry fee to visit here for children but above 5 years there is an entry fee of Rs 10 per person. This place is open for all seven days from 7 am to 6 pm.

Needle View Hill-point / Needle Rock Viewpoint

It is located in between the Ooty Mysore route in a place called Gudalur. Needle view hill point is a place from where you can touch the clouds. The hill point and the clouds are at par and during the rare occasion when the clouds separated from the peak you can see small villages at a distance. This hill point is characterized by a gigantic rock in the shape of a cone that why this place gets its name Needle View Hill Point. There is no entry fee to visit here. This place opens from 8 am to 6 pm from Monday to Sunday.

St Stephens Church

St Stephens Church is one of the monuments that was built in the British era. It was built to coincide with the birthday of King George

IV. The British architecture is seen in St Stephens Church. The structure of the church still stands tall and there are no signs of wear and tear despite the two hundred years when it was built. The Ooty St Stephens Church is a symbol of the rich history of Ooty. You can visit here with the timings of 10 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday and the church remains close on Sundays.

Wax World Ooty

Ooty has its Wax World located just 2 km away from the main city of Ooty. This museum has wonderful replicas of many social figures like our former President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam and Mother Teresa. The Wax World also has replicas showing the typical Indian village life. There is a fee of Rs 20 per person for entry. Being a museum there are timings to visit that are from 9 am to 8 pm all days of the week.

Best Time to Visit Ooty

Summer is the best time to visit Ooty with an average temperature between 23 degrees C to 25 degrees C. Days can be quite hot in summers but occasional showers can sweep away some heat to enjoy the glimpse of the Ooty. And even nights get cold enough to put on sweaters or warm clothes.
